So the weather has finally realised its summer and the sunshine is supposed to be sticking around for a while! This is a perfect time to dig out the sun cream and head to one of the many amazing Cornish beaches we have to offer!

Around 20 minutes away from The Green you have Looe which itself has 3 beaches (Plaidy, Hannafore and east Looe). Each of these offer something very different with East Looe beach being the main one, it’s the biggest of the three and boasts rocks for jumping off into the water, toilets nearby, the main shops and ice cream shops are close too. You would have to park in the main car park which is a 10 minute walk through the town.

Hannafore is over on West Looe and is full of rock pools so it’s excellent for the kids who enjoy exploring rather than jumping the waves. It’s relatively quiet and has stunning views of Looe island. It has toilets nearby a café and an ice cream shop. There is parking along the long stretch of road but get there early to get a spot.

Plaidy is on East Looe and the most difficult one to get to with no parking nearby, you have to park further up the hill and walk. It’s slightly more grainy/stony so a little uncomfortable underfoot but very peaceful due to its access. It’s a lovely beach but with it having no toilet facilities, shops or ice cream it’s not one you could comfortably spend all day at.

If you prefer big waves then the North coast is better for you and with Watergate Bay just under an hour away you could hire some boards and wetsuits and spend the day in the surf. It’s a long beach with large waves and all the facilities you could want.

Holywell Bay is also on the North coast and has a stream slowly meanders through the sloping sand dunes and opens up into an expansive beach with good waves. The stream is a favourite spot for small children and dogs running in and out, it has a really relaxing feel to it. There is a pub nearby for refreshments!

Where ever you go and whatever you do, take sun cream, water and a towel and you’re prepared for anything![/text_output][share title=”Share this Post” facebook=”true” twitter=”true” google_plus=”true”][image type=”none” float=”none” info=”none” info_place=”top” info_trigger=”hover” src=”10014″ alt=”beach, cornwall, the green, cottages, cornwall, heat wave,” title=”Playing on the beach in Cornwall”]
