In Holidays

This time of year may not seem the best time to have a short break or holiday but there is so much to see and do in Cornwall that to some, it is the perfect time.

There are a lot of National Trust properties that decorate the houses and gardens for the Christmas period. This is a wonderful opportunity to see “how the other half lives” with the elaborate decorations in the vast rooms of these country houses. Talking to the staff in these properties gives you an insight into the amount of work that goes into the decoration process. For example Cothele House, which is only a short distance from The Green , spends a whole month creating their famous Christmas Garland, using locally grown flowers which are then dried to make the garland. The Garland is 60 ft. long which spans the Great Hall with another 40ft piece around the doorway. Cothele also has choirs and bands singing and playing under the garland to make this time of year even more special.

Another popular activity at this time of year is Storm and Wave watching. Many coastal towns have cafés on or near the beaches, where you can watch the sea in a warm  cosy atmosphere with a lovely hot drink. If you are more adventurous you can venture onto the beach or along the coastal paths, as long as you are careful, and then return to the café for your warming drink.

Mousehole [pronounced Mowzel] is another popular destination, as every year they have a wonderful display of Christmas Lights in the Harbour and around the village.

All of these activities are just a short drive from The Green so it is the perfect place to base yourself, with our fully equipped comfy and cosy cottages .
