The Green is made up of 5 beautiful cottages and a spectacular 7-bedroom house – or you can get the whole place for 32 of you…
Trip Advisor May 2013…
Within 10 minutes of arriving at The Green we were sitting on the balcony of our cottage with a glass of wine enjoying the absolute peace and the view, not often you feel so relaxed so quickly. Its location near Bodmin Moor is perfect for exploring the surrounding area.
We stayed in cottage number 4, it has literally everything you would need and more. Simple touches in the kitchen like jars of teabags, coffee (and a cafetiere), milk on arrival were really welcome and the kitchen was so well stocked that you really wanted for nothing. In the living area, books, dvds and boardgames along with lots of information were provided. The high beamed ceilings added the wow factor along with the modern, tasteful décor. We were childishly impressed with the amplifier that allowed you to plug in your ipod and the music be played into all rooms separately! Our son and his friend loved the play park and especially the hammock.
Normally when I go away I have trouble sleeping but the bed was so comfortable that this wasn’t the case here.
We had the best, most relaxing long weekend we’ve had in years and would highly recommend staying at The Green.

Trip Advisor March 2013….
Myself, my partner and 2 boys age 5 years and the other 6 months had a wonderful time in Cottage number 2. It was so peaceful and relaxing and had everything we needed. The location is so tranquil, the stroll to the local pub is perfect for a pre evening meal distraction and The Green is perfectly located for surrounding attractions of both walks or a trip to seaside Looe. I am looking forward to going again.”
Visitors book February 2013….
We had a lovely time in Number two, very relaxing. The weather was freezing! but it did not stop us from visiting the beach. We can highly recommend the chef service , we had a fabulous meal cooked in our cottage. We visited Rock, Padstow and Fowey all worth the drive. Thanks to everyone at the Green we had a fantastic wedding and holiday.

Fantastic cottage everything you need and more. Had a really good holiday would like to come back and bring the children. Visited the Camel trail (bit wet) but had a great time. Ate at some lovely pubs and restaurants managed to get in to Jamie Oliver’s 15 one day and had a superb meal. Met the neighbor below the green and he recommended a few places and was really helpful as well. Thank our very much.

Excellent cottage – you have thought of everything and its beautifully presented. Did several good walks – Golitha Falls (your recommendation, many thanks) and Cardinham Woods particularly good for dogs. We have had a great holiday, made so much better by having such a clean and cosy base, and we hope to be able to come back next year and see all the things we missed this time around.
Trip Advisor November 2012…
We stayed in Cottage 2 which was a beautiful 2 bedroomed converted barn. It had all the modern amenities we needed. The grounds were lovely and the views across the valley early in the morning were stunning. There is a wildlife pond with resident ducks too. Easy walks to local pubs that served good beer and food. Dog friendly accomodation and local pubs meant our 4 legged friend could holiday with us. The only down side was a noisy owl who decided to make the tree outside the bedroom his roosting spot!!
Tripadvisor October 12 ... Loved It! Amazing, the house is gorgeous had a great mid week break just what we wanted. ideal for an fab girly trip away.

Tripadvisor July 2012 ...
Lovely cottage, amazing location, great service!
I stayed at No.5 The Green, Cornwall with my fiancé and 4 other friends in March 2012. Apart from being blessed by perhaps the one week of sunshine we’ve had so far this year, we were extremely pleased with the fantastic accommodation that awaited us.
No.5 on the ground floor of the old cheese farm block, was beautifully presented. Everything you need was there. Pots, pans, salt, pepper, DVD’s, books, everything AND the kitchen sink!
The bedrooms were clean and fresh, with lots of light. There was a special sound system, which meant you could play music from the living room and listen to it whilst in the bath!
My one and only VERY minor flaw was that the beds were a bit too soft for me. Most of our party had no issues with this though, it must just be my bad back needing a very firm bed!
The service from Moira, the owner, from the start was exceptional. It felt as if nothing was too much. I can’t thank Moira enough for such an excellent stay!
We visited with the view of booking The Green for our wedding next year and knew from the start that it was the perfect place for our Big Day.
There is a beautiful wooden arbour outside with views across the valley, under which you can get married, should the day be sunny (fingers crossed!). There is also a light, spacious reception room that will fit a moderate sized wedding party.
An on site kitchen area is next to this large room, so catering is not a problem.
There is a fantastic beauty therapist available who does home calls, called Louise. We booked her for a few massages and she worked wonders on my afore mentioned bad back! We will be booking her again when we next come to stay!
The Green is a beautiful place, very reasonably priced, in a magnificent area. I can’t recommend it highly enough!
Tripadvisor June 2012 ...
The House - Perfect For A Large Group
We (18 in total) rented The House (and Number 5) in June 2012. Beautiful properties, gorgeous decor and very well equipped. The ages of our group ranged from 5 - 85. The downstairs bathroom and bedroom is ideal for an older guest or one with mobility limitations. The kitchen/dining room is absolutely perfect for all getting together for breakfasts and evening meals and we had many a late night simply chatting round the huge table with a few drinks. There are enough bathrooms that noone needed to wait for a shower etc in the mornings and the fridge was ample size to stock our wine and beer, and of course some food items.
I cannot think of anything that is lacking from the properties, the owners have put a great deal of thought and effort in to making this a real home from home experience where you do not feel you have left anything behind. We met Moira on the first day; she was very friendly and gave us several suggestions on what we could do whilst there, and there is a wonderful information book in the properties with plenty of helpful, informative advice.
We ate at the Manor House (in the village) on 3 occasions; a) it was in walking distance which was a great bonus for many of the party b) the food was really VERY good and c) the staff were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend a visit.
Had trips out to Port Isaac, Fowey, Tintagel and Looe. We also visited the UK’s longest zip wire which is 50m and 490m long over a lake. Must try!! Despite the weather being absolutely awful we all had a very pleasant holiday. Would recommend The Green without hesitation.

Stunning Location
Wonderful few days away, staying in cottage number 3. Lovely decor, stunning views, very clean and well equipped. We stayed with a 6 month old and 3 year old and the cottage suited us well, although I think 4 adults may find it a little cosy. There are steps to the first floor entrance and 2 small internal steps so not well suited to those not steady on their feet. There is a baby pack available with lots of extras (back pack, blender, toys) to borrow free of charge, although you need to book this early, we missed out on many items as they were already booked during our stay. We also tried out the food delivery service which was really convenient, catered for special diets and very tasty. The little walk to the pond and river and the childrens play area were a lovely extra too.
Visitors Book June 2012…..
Family of 18 very pleased with accommodation the only thing that spoilt a very happy family reunion was the absolutely diabolical weather. We had one reasonably nice day nevertheless. It was very enjoyable and nice to be all-together. Thank you.

A lovely peaceful place for our cottage wedding. Beautiful weather the whole time and great to have the whole place to ourselves. Lovely walks through the woods and fields to Sterts theatre. Huge meals at he Manor House Inn in the village (dog friendly) and would also recommend The London Inn at St Neotsfor a friendly welcome and reasonably priced food. Great cottage and grounds - Moira and her team are doing a very good job!!”

Tripadvisor February 12 ... Our latest review from Trip Advisor
Cute Cottage
We were looking for a little traditional looking place….with high standards….peace and quiet….to get away for a week.
We found all of that here at The Green.
This small group of high spec cottages have been done really well…(even in our cute little cottage for two we had dishwasher / washing machine etc)...under floor heating throughout…..good bathroom with full size bath & shower…nice linens.
Owners checked in on us to make sure we were ok…...and also helped out by taking in some birthday flowers that were delivered.
The only noise we had at night was a bit of a “hoot off”....between a couple of owls for a few mins as darkness fell!
The location was perfect for our aim of rediscovering many of our old childhood beach holiday haunts on both the north and south coasts….plus lots of great countryside in between.
Liskard is only a few miles drive away for all normal requirements….supermarkets….banks….general small high street stuff.
In the village close by (walk-able either down the lanes or across the field) there is a pub Manor House that serves food also.
Would recommend if your looking for a good standard in this location.
Visitors Book February 12 ... We had a wonderful time in this perfect cottage. We don’t want to go home and are looking forward to coming back soon! Thank you for such a relaxing time.
Visitors Book January 12 ... We have had a lovely stay. The cottage was perfect. We had everything we needed. Can’t wait to come back. See you soon!!!
Your Holiday Planner February 12 ... REVIEW: Luxury self catering cottages on the edge of Bodmin Moor, Cornwall: The Green, House & Cottages
Posted on March 5, 2012 by Ching Lee
Review by Elaine Swift
Imagine waking up each morning in peaceful tranquillity, and watching the sun emerge from a bright line on the horizon to light up the sky as day breaks. Well, that’s exactly what we did from the balcony of our cottage at The Green, Cornwall in February.
The Green, House & Cottages, Cornwall. Photo by Elaine Swift www.elaineswift.co.uk.
The Green is a former cheese farm standing in 14-acres of beautiful grounds on the edge of Bodmin Moor. It’s been stylishly converted into six cottages and there’s also a lovely house that sleeps 12 which stands in its own small garden.
Everything about The Green has been well thought through, from the car park that stands away from the properties, to the cottages themselves.
What you’ll find inside
We loved the modern, stylish interior with its attention to detail and good quality furnishings. The high, vaulted ceiling in the main living room creates a lovely spacious feeling. There are wooden floorboards throughout which not only look good, they’re easy to keep clean, so you don’t have too worry too much about your muddy wellies.
Our cottage had a kitchenette in the main living space equipped with good quality, matching appliances – a nice change from the mishmash of oddments you find in many self-catering cottages!
We had two bedrooms – a double and a twin – both tastefully and minimally decorated. And I have to mention the mattress and duvet which were quite possibly the most comfortable I’ve ever experienced!
The underfloor heating was lovely and warm all the time, especially considering the height of the ceiling in the living room and the temperature outside.
There are some nice teccie features too: the wi-fi couldn’t be easier to access, and you can connect your iPod to the audio system – there are even speakers in the bathroom with a control switch outside.
Explore the grounds
I can well imagine it would be a great place to stay as a family or with a group of friends. Exploring the extensive grounds is a must – there’s even a small lake in the woods. There’s a children’s playground away from the cottages and house next to an orchard, and a large area of green in front of the properties where you can relax.
The Green, Cornwall, View from the Balcony. Photo by Elaine Swift www.elaineswift.co.uk.
Not just for holiday-makers
It’s the ideal venue for a wedding too and the owners have built a fabulous glass fronted space, which is flooded with natural light, in which ceremonies can take place. There’s also a romantic wooden arbour overlooking the valley for couples who want to tie the knot outside.
It’s so secluded and peaceful that I can also imagine it being perfect for a retreat or for corporate events such as off-site meetings when a bit concentrated thinking time is needed.
Things to do in the area
There’s lots to do in the area. Minnions, from where you can walk to the mysterious Cheesewring rock formation on Bodmin Moor, is about 10 minutes by car. It’s walkable from The Green if you’re feeling energetic.
The coast is within easy reach too with Looe only 11 miles away. Nearest town is Liskeard which is OK and Lostwithiel is worth a visit for its antique shops.
The tiny village of Upton Cross is just a stroll away. There is a pub in the village but I can’t recommend the food as we didn’t eat there.
Green credentials
We were pleased to discover that The Green isn’t just green by name. It has its own water sources and the cottages use renewable, ground source heat. All accommodation is fitted with efficient, low-consumption appliances, and the owners use eco cleaning products and encourage as much recycling as possible.
Outside, the well-managed grounds encourage biodiversity.
The Green is so secluded you really do feel you’re in the middle of nowhere – a very beautiful, tranquil nowhere where you can relax and forget about the world outside for a few days.
Thank you to copywriter and Your Holiday Planner contributor, Elaine Swift for providing this detailed review of The Green (www.thegreencornwall.co.uk) in Cornwall.
Trip Advisor January 12 ... I have just spent the last few days in Cottage Number 5 and I couldn’t of found a more perfect cottage for my family break. We find it quite hard to go away with twins and often find we have to pay the price to get extra room this was not the case at the green. Firstly the cottage was beautiful, well-equipped warm and an ideal living space for families with little ones. I was able to request a cot, buggy toys and other necessities that every one year old needs, and un like other places I have stayed they were able to provide two of most things which means I could make more room in the car for the little ones. We found the Staff to be very helpful and informative in planning child friendly days out. I came last year with friends and couldn’t wait to come back and my returning visit did not disappoint. We will all be back
Visitors Book December 11 ... Perfect location to celebrate my 30th birthday. The House was everything and more than we expected and it was kitted out with top quality furniture and equipment. Would love to come back!
Visitors Book December 11 ... Beautiful home, we all want to live here! Fab family 70th birthday party. 12 adults, 4 kids and 1 baby. Something for everyone. Need to come back. Not enough time x
Visitors Book November 11 ... Excellent cottage - you’ve thought of everything and it is beautifully presented. Did several good walks - Golitha Falls (your recommendation, many thanks) and Cardinham Woods. We’ve had a great holiday made so much better by having such a clean and cosy base and we hope to be able to come back next year to see all the things we missed this time around.
Visitors Book November 11 ... A lovely mini hol in this very beautiful place. Weather - Sat outside in the sun for breakfast - listened to very heavy wind and rain - glorious sunrise on our last morning. Sam’s on the Beach’ Polkerris was great - 2nd visit. Lovely walk on Bodmin Moor - standing stones before the rain started!! Port Issac in the sun - Sea Blue. Wow!!
Visitors Book November 11 ... We really appreciated such a clean cottage and all the thoughtful touches (sugar, coffee, tea, milk, soap, dishwasher tablets etc.) thank you! For us ice skating at the Eden Project and a fantastic last sunny day at Watergate Bay were the highlights. The latter took about an hour to get to and it was well worth it - 2 grown ups, 2 children and a dog happily occupied all day. Will be back!
Tripadvisor October 2011 A little piece of heaven! The cottage is beautiful and the owners friendly and welcoming. Location is perfect for peace and exploring. Renovation has been really tasteful. The whole place feels cosy and homely. Somewhere you would want go back to.
Visitor’s Book October 2011 ... What a fab week away. Best equipped cottage we have stayed in. Great central location for exploring Cornwall. Definitely recommend Polperro and Fowey for picture postcard days out.
Tripadvisor October 2011 Perfect, ticks every single box! Couldn’t have asked for better accomodation, we stayed in No.5 for a week and there is nothing at all that was amiss. Stunning views from the panoramic folding doors and excellent facilities which were modern, immaculate and very tastefully decorated. A warm welcome and advice were at hand from Moira and the information about places to visit and things to do was great. The surrounding woodland walks and orchard were a delight for our dog and the local pub just a few minutes walk away was welcoming and dog friendly too. Its an excellent base from which to explore Cornwall. We would most definately return and stay here, all the cottages looked inviting yet remain quite private for meals/BBQ’s outside etc. Thoroughly pleased with our holiday.
Facebook October 2011 ... We had a lovely week in number 3 with our two children (6 and 3). Beautiful place to stay.
Facebook October 2011 ... We had a great stay here this summer. Beautiful spot, beautiful surroundings.
Visitors Book October 11… This is our second visit here and we still found plenty to see. We had a very enjoyable day at Cotehele (NT) - where it is possible to buy lots of lovely crafts. We recommend the Crows Nest - the food is great. The cottage is more homely than last year and there are some lovely pictures on the website. Another great holiday!!!
GreenTraveller October 11 ... Lovely review http://www.greentraveller.co.uk/blog/review-green-cornwal-cornwall-england
Visitors Book October 11 ... Stunning Stuff. Moira and Zoe made it so easy for us to relax. Spotting wild horses on Bodmin Moor, Sam’s restaurant in Fowey and Rick Stein’s grilled fish and chips in Padstow to name a few highlights. Oh and how can we forget the sparkling wines at Camel Valley!!
Twitter October 2011 ... Week at @thegreencornwal - one word. Amazing! If u haven’t been, go, if you have been. Book again!
Visitors book September 2011 ... We had the best time. The cottage has everything we needed and we loved the grounds - especially the rabbits and squirrels. Stunning beaches for the dogs. We have, over the week, ventured to Padstow, The Eden Project, The Lost Gardens of Heligan, Camel Valley Vineyard, Fowey, Jamie’s 15 and many more lovely places and will definitely be back to Cornwall.
By text September 2011 ... The House is absolutely beautiful. Thank you!
By Email September 2011… I stayed at No 1, The Green in August / September 2011. I was looking for comfort, quiet and reflection and found these in abundance. The village of Rilla Mill was friendly, the setting of The Green itself beautifully tended and the cottage finished to an extremely high standard. The consideration given to the layout of the cottage in which I stayed, was very impressive. Such good use of space ensured that the place always felt airy. I was especially pleased with the level of cleanliness – so often an issue in holiday properties. No 1 was spotless and felt fresh. Management felt accessible without seeming in any way overbearing. I had exactly the experience I had hoped for and I’m sure I will return to enjoy again the pleasure of peace at The Green.
Visitor Book August 2011 ... Had a great time, despite the rain. Plenty of lovely areas around to visit. Cottage and surrounding grounds are lovely - so peaceful! everything we needed was provided, and it has been a very comfortable place to stay. With a little one we didn’t make much use of the local pub/restaurant, though we did brave it on our last night, and it was worth it. Watching the wildlife was great - open your windows to rabbits and occasionally a woodpecker. Also there are a pair of falcons to be seen (and heard) circling overhead. Owls and bats at night too. Particularly liked St Ives but Fowey and Padstow are worth a visit too. Eden is excellent.
Tripadvisor August 2011… Wonderful accommodation, friendly owner We stumbled across The Green, Cornwall at the last minute and when we saw the photos really wanted to book. When we arrived we were not disappointed. The accommodation was tastefully decorated and had everything a family with 3 children (3 years, 1 year, 3 months) could want. The open plan arrangement made it ideal for the kids to play in the cottage whilst keeping a watchful eye on them when making breakfast. There was a travel cot and plastic plates, cutlery and cups for the kids. For those wanting to eat in the cottage the kitchen was well stocked with utensils, pots and pans etc. The peaceful location and open grass areas were safe for the children to play out on as cars pack 50 yards away in the parking area. The childrens play area with swings and slide was a hit with the little ones. Nice touches: the free Wifi, the copy of the Cornwall/Devon Lonely Planet guide which was useful during the stay, the information pack with many suggestions for things to do/places to eat in many locations in Cornwall, become a facebook friend of The Green, as the owner regular posts fairs, plays, musical events etc happening that day. On a final note the owner was often around on-site and was extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgable of the local area.
Visitors Book August 2011… What a home from home! One of the best self catering apartments we have ever stayed in. Everything was spotless, beautiful decor and every need anticipated. Only downside was that we didn’t stay longer.
Tripadvisor August 2011… An excellent cottage would recommend We stayed in cottage three recently, the location and views from the cottage are excellent. The furnishing and decor of the cottage are stylish and practical with everything you would need for your holiday including the bedding and towels. The kitchen was equipped with almost everything you need ( no colander) and was well designed. Overall we were impressed and would recommend it, the only criticism I would have is the website does not make it clear the only access to the cottage is up 14 steps and is part of a complex with two other cottages (We’ve modified the website and replaced the colander)
Facebook July 2011 ... This is the most elegant beautiful place we have stayed in. It has every thing you could ever need and more. The house is spacious and all the bathrooms are really handy for the 11 of us!!!!
Visitors Book July 2011… We came here on a recommendation and we have not been disappointed. The cottage is lovely and had everything we needed, we felt very welcome. The location is perfect for days out. We wouldn’t hesitate to come back and will be happy to recommend it. Thank you!
Tripadvisor June 2011… Amazing holiday accommodationLast summer we stayed in cottage 3 and as the property was new on the Internet, there were no reviews, so we did not know what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised at how lovely the cottage was. Charming, tastefully decorated, modern, comfortable and fully equipped. Loved the original features they retained such as the slate walls and wood beams. The bathroom was modern, clean; the kitchen did not lack anything. The owners have done a lot of work since, adding a kid’s playground etc. The outside area is tranquil, green countryside, with rabbits hopping everywhere at dusk. We found it relaxing to come to the cottage at night after having a hectic day sightseeing in Cornwall. I can not remember the name of the local pub, in the nearest village, but the food was great. We would certainly return next year. A thoroughly enjoyable holiday experience.
Tripadvisor June 2011… Stunning cottage. We will be back The cottage was as beautifully finished as shown on the website. Beams, wooden floors and lots of gadgets like underfloor heating, ipod connection, speakers in every room. Really beautiful location with great views of the moors. Kids loved exploring the woodland walk, river and lake area and the playground was a hit. A good local pub to walk to was a real bonus. Trips to the Eden project and Padstow and some sunshine! Moira, the owner couldn’t have been more helpful. The Green is a very chilled place and iIts only their first season open. The place was a real find. We will be back!
Tripadvisor June 2011… Amazing! We will be back This cottage was not only beautiful but well equipped, they had everything I needed including a buggy, which was great one less thing I needed to pack. The grounds were lovely and the children loved being able to run around in the meadow and the play equipment was a big hit. Thank you so much you made our stay magical and your advice on toddler friendly days out was great. Can’t wait to come back.
