eco policy
You care about the environment – so do we! We’ve worked hard to ensure The Green, House and Cottages, is as sustainable as possible without shaving an ounce off the service you experience here
Our luxury self catering cottages are heated using renewable, ground source heat, and we’ve made sure all that lovely warmth stays inside by insulating our cottages beyond current standards. We’ve also fitted all our accommodation with efficient, low-consumption appliances, and during the renovation work, made it our priority to reuse as many of the original materials as possible.
Outside, The Green’s natural environment encourages biodiversity. Wander through our wild flower meadow or take a stroll around the orchard, which is planted with local varieties. At dusk, keep your eyes peeled for our bat population – who we’ve accommodated in their own stone cottage – or the owls flying in and out of the nesting boxes we’ve provided for them. Our woodland provides habitat for many species, including deer.
What’s more, we have our own water source – naturally filtered fresh from the moors. We use all eco cleaning products and encourage recycling as much as possible.
You can also do your bit to reduce food miles by shopping in the two excellent farm shops close by, as well as the well-stocked village shop in Rilla Mill. Or have your shopping delivered to your accommodation Or, even better, have a rest from cooking and walk to the pub and enjoy the excellent food.
