Christmas 2012 at the Green Cornwall.

I know its it’s only July but now is the time to start thinking about Christmas yes I know its ONLY July but if you want to go away this Christmas now is the time to think about it. Christmas at the Green is magical. We cant grantee a white Christmas but up on the moors even a sprinkling of frost looks very Christmassy. Our arrival days for this Christmas are either Friday 21st December or Saturday 22nd this gives you time to settle in before Christmas and do a bit of exploring. The Eden project will be open every day except from 24th and 25th of December, and the Eden project is a very special place and at Christmas its transformed into a magical winter wonderland with ice skating and activities for the children. There is also a German Christmas market in Plymouth and all sorts of local events going on over the course of the week. The lights at mousehole are also well worth a visit. Coombe kitchen our meal service can prepare you Christmas dinner so all you have to do is put the turkey in the oven and warm up the veg. Family friendly holidays for large groups in beautiful Cornwall.

I was reading an article the other day in the paper and it said that with the recession family’s are choosing to go away in larger groups, with friends or with the larger family group. It got me thinking about when I was child we always did this. My mum dad and sister were always joined by grandparents, my aunt and uncle and my cousins making us 11 in total + a dog. It was quite hard to find somewhere big enough for us all to stay in back then and often had to stay in groups of cottages, it was really hard to find a large cottage for all of us. This is one of the great things about the green Cornwall in total we sleep 32 and have a large function room available to hire as well so you can all eat together. Not looking for something that big any of our cottages can be booked in conjunction with each other, if your looking for something for 12 people why not look at the House at the green. Latest Trip Advisor Review For Our Large Holiday Home In Cornwall

We (18 in total) rented The House (and Number 5) in June 2012. Beautiful properties, gorgeous decor and very well equipped. The ages of our group ranged from 5 - 85. The downstairs bathroom and bedroom is ideal for an older guest or one with mobility limitations. The kitchen/dining room is absolutely perfect for all getting together for breakfasts and evening meals and we had many a late night simply chatting round the huge table with a few drinks. There are enough bathrooms that noone needed to wait for a shower etc in the mornings and the fridge was ample size to stock our wine and beer, and of course some food items.
I cannot think of anything that is lacking from the properties, the owners have put a great deal of thought and effort in to making this a real home from home experience where you do not feel you have left anything behind. We met Moira on the first day; she was very friendly and gave us several suggestions on what we could do whilst there, and there is a wonderful information book in the properties with plenty of helpful, informative advice.
We ate at the Manor House (in the village) on 3 occassions; a) it was in walking distance which was a great bonus for many of the party b) the food was really VERY good and c) the staff were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend a visit.
Had trips out to Port Isaac, Fowey, Tintagel and Looe. We also visited the UK’s longest zip wire which is 50m and 490m long over a lake. Must try!! Despite the weather being absolutely awful we all had a very pleasant holiday. Would recommend The Green without hesitation.

Hello from a windy Cornwall, Bit of wind doesn’t stop us though!

Well its is windy down here, we have been very luck though hear at the green no damage has been caused and there were no trees down on my way in. The same cant be said about the rest of the south west so please check the local traffic reports before you go any where. But a bit of wind doesn’t stop us Cornish folk, the biggest event in the Cornish farming and agricultural calendar opened yesterday, the Duchess of Cornwall even made it down after all the celebrations they have been having in the capital. The Royal Cornwall show is not all about the farmers there is something for everyone with plenty to do for the children and plenty do for the adults. Our good friends at Cornish orchard have a stall down there so don’t forget to stop by. Our first visit to Cornwall and what a great one it was. Fantastic accommodation, great views and we were so lucky to have amazing hot weather.

The cottage is absolutely stunning and we felt at ease here. It was also lovely to know we could call Moira if we needed anything although everything was covered.

Th location was great for getting around Cornwall and wehafd a lovely day at Looe beach.. We also visited the Adrenaline Quarry to go down the zip wire which as so much fun. Will come back with the kids next time!

Well what a lovely day turned out to be. We have had glorious sunshine and this evening is perfect for a bbq. After the last few days of terrible weather the sunshine was a lovely surprise. We have a young family ourselves and we try very hard to make your holiday with the family fun and relaxed.

We have books, dvds and games for the kids in all our cottages. The outside space is stunngin with a safe, contained area around the properties to keep younger children safe and with woodland and meadows for the older kids to enjoy exploring.

In the summer you can enjoy a night under canvas for a taste of camping.

Our kids play area is set in our beautiful orchard so the parents can relax and enjoy the views whilst the kids are amused.

The family can enjoy a walk through our woodland watching the wildlife; rabbits are a sure thing and deer are common. Enjoy exploring our pond with its family of ducks and lots of newts, frogs etc.

Another busy day at the Green.

First up is The Green Cornwall - luxury house and holiday cottages on the edge of Bodmin Moor.

I was jumping for joy for two reasons when Moira, owner of The Green, Cornwall asked me to work on her weddings brochure.

For one I’ve loved Cornwall ever since I was child and we try to get there several times a year. And secondly, Moira contacted me through Twitter proving that it really can lead to business.

About The Green

The Green is a former cheese farm on the edge of Bodmin Moor, not far from the mysterious Cheesewring rock formations at Minions.

Moira and her husband, Mike, have converted the farm to create a luxury hideaway that feels like it’s in the middle of nowhere. The Green comprises a beautiful house that sleeps 12 and five stylishly decorated cottages.

Background

The Green is perfect for large gatherings such as weddings, and Moira and Mike have converted one of the buildings into a stunning space in which couples can tie the knot. Or for the more romantic, there’s a pretty wooden arbour overlooking a valley surrounded by woodland and views over the moors.

It was the wedding offering that Moira wanted my help with. She’d put together a brochure to promote it but wasn’t happy with the copy. She felt it lacked emotion and commissioned me to rewrite it for her.

What I did

I grilled Moira about The Green: why does it lend itself to weddings? What makes it so special? What kind of people was she trying to reach with the brochure?

I think I may have drained her by the end of the conversation. As for me, I just wanted to be there!

Moira was so enthusiastic that I got a very good idea from our first conversation of what it would be like to hold a wedding there. I discovered that the special ingredient is a combination of breathtakingly beautiful setting, freedom to stage the type of wedding you want, with fabulous service and support to help you achieve it.

As well as getting a good brief, I was lucky enough to have the design to work to so I knew how much space I had for the words. It doesn’t always happen, but when it does it makes life easier for everyone involved.

I thoroughly enjoyed working on the brochure and was thrilled to see the finished item when we stayed in one of the cottages in February. And it is indeed a very special place.

Romantic cottage in Cornwall - Review

Our first visit to Cornwall and what a great one it was. Fantastic accommodation, great views, and we were so lucky to have amazing hot weather.

The cottage is absolutely stunning and we felt at ease here. It was also lovely to know that we could call Moira if we needed anything although everything was covered.

The location was great to get around Cornwall and we had a lovely day at Looe beach. We also visited the Adrenalin Quarry to go down the Zip Wire which was so much fun. Will definatley come back with the kids next time!

Mothers Day at the Green…..

Well it was a lovely mothers day here at the green with a lovely afternoon tea party in the House for our guests. Trip Advisor Cornwall Cottage Reviews

Cute Cottage
We were looking for a little traditional looking place….with high standards….peace and quiet….to get away for a week.
We found all of that here at The Green.
This small group of high spec cottages have been done really well…(even in our cute little cottage for two we had dishwasher / washing machine etc)...under floor heating throughout…..good bathroom with full size bath & shower…nice linens.
Owners checked in on us to make sure we were ok…...and also helped out by taking in some birthday flowers that were delivered.
The only noise we had at night was a bit of a “hoot off”....between a couple of owls for a few mins as darkness fell!
The location was perfect for our aim of rediscovering many of our old childhood beach holiday haunts on both the north and south coasts….plus lots of great countryside in between.
Liskard is only a few miles drive away for all normal requirements….supermarkets….banks….general small high street stuff.
In the village close by (walk-able either down the lanes or across the field) there is a pub Manor House that serves food also.
Would recommend if your looking for a good standard in this location.

Well it another beautiful day to day here at the green and I’m rather spoilt because I have the green to my self as all of our guests have gone out to make the most of the gorgeous sunshine. And it just reminds me how much I love Cornwall this time of year. March – May is always my favorite time of year. The weather is often fantastic with little rain and because the children are still at school many attractions are often not quite as busy. The Green Cornwall the Perfect weekend break in luxury.

What a glorious weekend we have had here in Cornwall. Beautiful blue sky’s plenty of sunshine and plenty of things to do. I spent the weekend visiting places just stones throw away from the Green. So I spent Saturday walking up on Kit hill the views are spectacular and you can see the Green in the distance. I then went down to the local pub and had a meal. The Local pub is just a 5-minute walk from the green and the food is lovely. Good quality local produce and affordable. Today I have spent the day exploring the Moors and Tors close to the Green again specular views and lots of wildlife to be seen. This evening I will be tucking in to a meal from the Meal service we have at the green Cornwall so all I have to do is pop it in the oven.  It was the perfect weekend. REVIEW: Luxury self catering cottages on the edge of Bodmin Moor, Cornwall: The Green, House & Cottages

Imagine waking up each morning in peaceful tranquillity, and watching the sun emerge from a bright line on the horizon to light up the sky as day breaks. Well, that’s exactly what we did from the balcony of our cottage at The Green, Cornwall in February.

The Green is a former cheese farm standing in 14-acres of beautiful grounds on the edge of Bodmin Moor. It’s been stylishly converted into six cottages and there’s also a lovely house that sleeps 12 which stands in its own small garden.

Everything about The Green has been well thought through, from the car park that stands away from the properties, to the cottages themselves.

What you’ll find inside

We loved the modern, stylish interior with its attention to detail and good quality furnishings. The high, vaulted ceiling in the main living room creates a lovely spacious feeling. There are wooden floorboards throughout which not only look good, they’re easy to keep clean, so you don’t have too worry too much about your muddy wellies.

Our cottage had a kitchenette in the main living space equipped with good quality, matching appliances – a nice change from the mishmash of oddments you find in many self-catering cottages!

We had two bedrooms – a double and a twin – both tastefully and minimally decorated. And I have to mention the mattress and duvet which were quite possibly the most comfortable I’ve ever experienced!

The underfloor heating was lovely and warm all the time, especially considering the height of the ceiling in the living room and the temperature outside.

There are some nice teccie features too: the wi-fi couldn’t be easier to access, and you can connect your iPod to the audio system – there are even speakers in the bathroom with a control switch outside.

Explore the grounds

I can well imagine it would be a great place to stay as a family or with a group of friends. Exploring the extensive grounds is a must – there’s even a small lake in the woods. There’s a children’s playground away from the cottages and house next to an orchard, and a large area of green in front of the properties where you can relax.

Not just for holiday-makers

It’s the ideal venue for a wedding too and the owners have built a fabulous glass fronted space, which is flooded with natural light, in which ceremonies can take place. There’s also a romantic wooden arbour overlooking the valley for couples who want to tie the knot outside.

It’s so secluded and peaceful that I can also imagine it being perfect for a retreat or for corporate events such as off-site meetings when a bit concentrated thinking time is needed.

Things to do in the area

There’s lots to do in the area. Minnions, from where you can walk to the mysterious Cheesewring rock formation on Bodmin Moor, is about 10 minutes by car. It’s walkable from The Green if you’re feeling energetic.

The coast is within easy reach too with Looe only 11 miles away. Nearest town is Liskeard which is OK and Lostwithiel is worth a visit for its antique shops.

The tiny village of Upton Cross is just a stroll away. There is a pub in the village but I can’t recommend the food as we didn’t eat there.

Green credentials

We were pleased to discover that The Green isn’t just green by name. It has its own water sources and the cottages use renewable, ground source heat. All accommodation is fitted with efficient, low-consumption appliances, and the owners use eco cleaning products and encourage as much recycling as possible.

Outside, the well-managed grounds encourage biodiversity.

The Green is so secluded you really do feel you’re in the middle of nowhere – a very beautiful, tranquil nowhere where you can relax and forget about the world outside for a few days.

We have just taken a booking for a family who wish to come to England during the Olympics games and watch here rather than from home. The Eden Project is always a great day out for kids and grownups and is perfect whatever the weather. There are always special children’s activities in the school holidays and with tons of space it never feels too crowded. There is plenty of parking with frequent buses to transfer visitors to the biomes. Although dogs are not welcome there are some dog friendly parking spaces where your can can be parked in the shade. You can buy tickets in advance but there are plenty of ticket desks which are kept well-manned. Once you have paid your entry free you can return any number of times in the next year for free. So why not have another visit during your holiday or plan a return trip on your next break in Cornwall.

Planning a trip to Cornwall?  looking for a fun filled family holiday….......

Whilst some of the county was enjoying a heat wave the other day, down hear in Cornwall we were not, but it has been very mile down here and we didn’t have any rain. I used my day off to do what many of our guests have said they have enjoyed during there stays here, I went to walk around siblyback Lake. Its something I’ve not done since I was a child and it was lovely. It was not at all muddy and almost completely flat. Ideal for taking your bikes and great for small children as long as you are aware that it’s around a deep reservoir. Family friendly cottages in Cornwall

All our Cornwall cottages are family friendly and a perfect Cornish base for kids of all ages. We have 14 acres to explore without getting in the car. We have our orchard play park for the little ones with swings (including a baby swing), a slide and climbing frame. The orchard is a beautiful spot with clouds of blossom in the spring and fruiting trees in the autumn. The area is fenced so parents can have a sit down and relax while the lids enjoy themselves and run off some steam.

We ask our guests to park in the car park other than on arrival and departure days for pick up. This keeps the whole site car free and allows the little ones to have a bit more freedom to explore than they might have a t home. The area around the cottages is fenced to keep the little ones safe. While older kids may enjoy the freedom to explore further a field.

At some distance form the cottages we have a pond and small river which the kids love exploring.

Don’t forget that you can request baby and toddler pack. These packs have all the essentials for travelling with little children including buggies, sterilisers, blenders, bumbos, toys etc.

All our cottages have a selection of family friendly DVDs.

We have walks in our woodland which the whole family may enjoy. There is plenty of wildlife to spot on the way from squirrels and tadpoles to buzzards and deer. Take a stroll to the viewing point and enjoy the stunning view over Bodmin Moor.

All this and the parents don’t have to skimp on a bit of luxury. Why not book our babysitter have walk to the local pub for a grown up night out.

I have just spent the last few days in Cottage Number 5 and I couldn’t of found a more perfect cottage for my family break. We find it quite hard to go away with twins and often find we have to pay the price to get extra room this was not the case at the green. Firstly the cottage was beautiful, well-equipped warm and an ideal living space for families with little ones. I was able to request a cot, buggy toys and other necessities that every one year old needs, and un like other places I have stayed they were able to provide two of most things which means I could make more room in the car for the little ones. We found the Staff to be very helpful and informative in planning child friendly days out. I came last year with friends and couldn’t wait to come back and my returning visit did not disappoint. We will all be back

“Snowdrops are growing inside the railings around a tomb, and winter heliotrope creeps in from the edge of the churchyard. Gun shots echo along the valley of the Ottery where the mansion of Werrington Estate is hidden by trees. In the 18th century the medieval church and graves were demolished and dug up: they were removed from the original site and set here, outside a substantial stoned-up bank bounding the parkland. The church tower was rebuilt with its pinnacles, and carved apostles were reset in niches. Old slate memorials have been remounted on the outside wall of the church. One depicts the nephew of Sir Francis Drake, with his wife and four children, and another commemorates Philip Scipio, the African servant of a subsequent owner of the big house.

Northwards, much of the land is clayey and waterlogged, suitable only for summer grazing. Belts of trees and hedge-banks are protected with wire fencing where wool, which has been scratched off sheep’s backs, blows in the blustery wind. A bunch of muddy ewes with lambs lurk in a sunny corner and, opposite shady woods along Tala Water, a larger flock spreads across the pasture. In a farmyard cattle, confined under cover, feed from troughs of silage near a rick of unwrapped bales and piles of discarded plastic wrap. Streams flow towards a brown and scummy reach of the swirling Tamar and, until a boundary change in 1966, this pastoral, remote parish was included with Devon, on the opposite bank.

Between the river and a narrow lane the last lap of the defunct canal from Bude is now choked with leaf-mould, flag iris and saplings. Its meandering and laboriously constructed course ended at Druxton Wharf, Crossgate, where a sunken track leads uphill between eroded tree roots and the unfrosted greenery of soft shield ferns, back towards Werrington.” - The Guardian

Really lovely article about walking on Dartmoor from the Independent. I didn’t know that Warhorse was filmed on Dartmoor, did you?

The Independent - “If they’ve any sense, Dartmoor’s residents are preparing for an invasion of American tourists this year after the national park became a backdrop for several scenes in War Horse, Steven Spielberg’s film which premiered earlier this month.

Spielberg fell in love with the moors while filming his adaptation of Michael Morpurgo’s acclaimed novel-then-play of a Devon farm horse, Joey, who is sent to France during the First World War. Even allowing for luvvie hyperbole, Spielberg seemed genuinely awed, declaring: “I have never before, in my long and eclectic career, been gifted with such an abundance of natural beauty as I experienced filming War Horse on Dartmoor.”

Some scenes were shot near Bonehill Rocks above Widecombe-in-the-Moor, and a walk between this and other tors, which feels a bit like connecting a dot-to-dot drawing, can give a good idea of just what pressed Spielberg’s buttons. You may see the odd farm horse; certainly you’ll see the delightful picture-postcard Dartmoor ponies.

Widecombe has long been the national park’s official honeypot village – large coach and car parks and yellow lines everywhere – so winter is a good time to visit. Pick a clear day, as mist and hill fog will make for a dreary plod along paths that can be indistinct.

The hardest part of this rectangular walk comes first: the village is set deep in a bowl, surrounded on three sides by craggy hills and tors, as if tucked inside a fragmented volcano. I followed long, steep, meandering lanes and footpaths as they curled away, taking me high above the village to join the Two Moors Way, which drills north over Hamel Down.

Here, the scene was like an impressionist painting: smears of dark green grass covered the flanks of the lower moors; lumpy lichens protruded from trees while craggy, leafless woodland and brushwood formed a blur of brown and deep reds in the valleys below. Sheep grazed on the steep-sided hills, their dozy idyll disturbed abruptly by a fox that trotted confidently along my footpath, as if sizing them up for lunch. Apart from when they’ve been chased by hounds, I’ve never seen such a conspicuous fox in open countryside.

The path inched up the spine of Hamel Down, passing cairns and ancient landmarks. Rotting wooden poles pinpoint eerily the upper part of the down; planted during the Second World War to prevent enemy aircraft from landing, they have been abandoned in perpetuity. Spectacular tors lined up to the east: Chinkwell Tor, Honeybag Tor and behind them huge, tumbling, Hound Tor, and the snout-like Lower Man below Haytor Rocks.

Near the summit of the down I took a small goat track that swept east and downhill, keeping above the East Webburn river. In the middle distance stood a lonely, leafless rowan tree, tenaciously bent double against the elements. I could see for miles in each direction, but, thanks to the lie of the land, and strategically positioned woodlands, there was no trace of human habitation.

Footpaths then drilled across the head of the valley through bucolic beech woods. I passed Jay’s Grave, built of stone and moss – Kitty Jay is said to be a young 19th-century woman who took her life after being ostracised by her community for falling pregnant. The grave is often bedecked with floral tributes and is the source of local ghost legends.

Hound Tor finally loomed close. This huge rock outcrop is thought – probably erroneously – to have featured in The Hound of the Baskervilles, though, even more oddly, featured in EastEnders when Ian Beale and Melanie hit the road to view the 1999 eclipse. Behind the tor, you’ll see the fragmented traces of the medieval settlement of Hound Tor.

Heading back to Widecombe, I picked up a clear bridleway that cut between Chinkwell Tor and Bonehill Rocks, both of which feature in War Horse. The fields here are sprinkled with large piles of rocks: it’s easy to imagine how such a sight would have spooked our Neolithic ancestors who must have thought these had been dropped from the sky by grumbling gods.

The bridleway joined a narrow lane and dived down into the valley. The distinctive rectangular tower of Widecombe’s village church, St Pancras, punched up high from the valley floor. It’s often described as the “cathedral of the moors” and is a gem of perpendicular design, original bosses and moulded oak arches. But this was January and the village was all but asleep. Visit as soon as you can, while the tranquillity remains undisturbed.

Directions

Turn right out of the Shop on the Green car park and follow lane past park. Take track/footpath half-left, signposted Kingshead. At farm gate, follow waymakers around and above farm to skyline and Two Moors Way. Turn right uphill. After 2.5km/1 miles, at Hamel Down Cross bear right along narrow track down to road and Natsworthy Manor. Follow footpath to Jay’s Grave. Cross road at the grave and continue on footpath to minor road. Turn right to visit Hound Tor, then rejoin lane south. After 1km/ mile, at cattle grid bear half-right along bridleway. At Bonehill Rocks join minor road back to Widecombe.”

Church of England weddings up by 4% in 2010 - The Guardian

Below is an interesting article in the Guardian on the rise in Church weddings. If you would like a church ceremony in Cornwall please contact us for details.

“The number of church weddings has risen for the first time in several years, new figures show.

More couples are marrying in churches, but the pews continue to empty on Sundays. Although the total number of couples tying the knot is falling, 4 per cent more did so in an Anglican church during 2010 than in the year before. It provides the first sign of success of a Church of England move to make it easier to have a traditional wedding anywhere in the country.

However attendance statistics also published on Thursday show that fewer and fewer people are attending church services, even at major dates in the Christian calendar.
The Bishop of Norwich, the Rt Revd Graham James, said: “It’s encouraging that making it easier in law to have a church wedding - while investing in research and development to help care for couples and guests - has started to bear fruit.”

According to the most recent figures from the Office for National Statistics, only 231,490 couples wed in England and Wales during 2009, the lowest number since 1895. In that year, Church of England marriages and blessings also reached a low of 56,700.

However new figures show that in 2010, the number of weddings rose by 4 per cent to reach 58,700. It represents the first rise since 2004. The increase came after the Church of England relaxed its rules through a “marriage measure” introduced in October 2008. Under the revised scheme, couples can marry in any parish where they have lived for six months or where their parents or grandparents wed.

There are tens of thousands of cottages available to rent in the UK. Our new four-part guide tells you how to find the perfect place for you. Part one reveals the best

in the UK is the “easy” holiday option, right? No flights, transfers, jabs, hotel rules, plenty of space, the chance to save money by eating in and so on, all make for a more relaxing experience. That’s the theory, anyhow. In practice, booking a cottage can be a minefield. There are dozens of companies selling tens of thousands of properties across the country. The UK’s largest self-catering operator, Cottages4You, has 10,000 places on its books alone.

So, where do you start? Who should you book through? When should you book? Are some regions of the country cheaper than others? Are there any firms who don’t put their prices up at peak times?

This guide is designed to help you answer these questions. While we can’t pick the perfect cottage for you, we’ve done the groundwork, finding out who offers what and where, which areas are the most popular and which properties get snapped up early.

First things first, when to book? The London Olympics and the diamond jubilee, combined with the economic downturn, mean that more of us are looking to holiday at home this year. Holiday Lettings, which features more than 6,000 UK properties, reported a 50% year-on-year rise in inquiries in the first two days of 2012, while Owners Direct (nearly 3,000 places) says inquiries are up 30%.

An additional pressure will be the expected increase in foreign tourists hoping to combine a trip to the Olympics with a trip into the countryside. Hideaways, which specialises in accommodation in the West Country, says it has taken a number of bookings from families from abroad.

All of which suggests you should book early, especially if you have your heart set on a coastal cottage in one of the more popular regions. According to Cottages4You, the best-selling areas, based on 2012 bookings to date are (in order): Cornwall, Scotland, Devon, Wales, Norfolk, the Lake District and Dorset. Within those regions there are particular hot spots: in Cornwall, for example, Padstow is a magnet for families in summer.

The good news is, while flagship cottages in these honeypot areas are getting snapped up now, there are many alternatives in gorgeous but less well-trodden parts of the country, and as part of this series we will highlight some of the hidden gems in these quieter corners of the British countryside.

Cornwall Wildlife Trust is 50 in 2012

The Cornwall Wildlife Trust is a local charity that was set up in 1962 and works to ‘protect and enhance Cornwall’s wildlife and wild places’. The Trust organises fantastic events throughout the year. We use Facebook, Twitter and the information pack in our cottages to keep our guests up to date with these activities. The Cornwall Wildlife Trust turns 50 this year and there are some really great celebrations planned.

Come along to our Nature Reserves Birthday walks, 50 years after the Trust’s founding meeting, at one of six nature reserves around the county. The special guided walks include tea and birthday cake, and will last from 10.00am until 11.30am at the following Trust nature reserves:

The Tate, St Ives - A great place to visit from our Cornwall cottages

One of the reasons that guests love coming to The Green is its location. Our cottages are perfectly located to easily reach all the places in Cornwall that you really want to visit. We had a great day at St Ives today. It was just stunning on Porthmeor Beach - I took the picture below with my camera phone! The Tate is closed from 4-17 January 2012 while displays are re-hung but the Café, shop and Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden are still open. From 18th March (Mother’s Day) Super Sundays at The Tate St Ives start up again. These are family friendly days out at The Tate with hands on activities for children and adults to enjoy. These are free events and booking is not required. Under 18s always get free entry at The Tate St Ives.

These are all places that we enjoy and we are sure you will too. We indicate the distance from our cottages, the price and the type of food. We also provide you with a personally prepared beach guide. This guide indicates the distance rom our cottages, dog friendliness, access and parking. We provide a comprehensive pack containing leaflets for local attractions and events. For activities right on our doorstep we include the local parish magazine so you can join in with our local events, farmers markets etc.

In addition to our information packs we keep Facebook and Twitter up to date with local events and our own recommendations.

Some brides on confetti.co.uk have been mentioning us in their posts about mini moons and we were intrigued as we had never heard of a mini-moon. We decided to find out what a minimoon is. We found 2 definitions:
1) A mini moon is a brief adventure that engaged couples share, which allows them to visit a location before making a final wedding or honeymoon decision.

2) research, carried out by accommodation website Hotels.com, questioned readers of Wedding Ideas magazine and found that 77 per cent of ‘just-marrieds’ plan to go away for less than a fortnight. Almost three quarters of those questioned blamed financial pressures for the decision while 56 per cent said work commitments prevented them from going away for longer.
